Brockholes Nature Reserve

by Lydia (follow)
Nature just got closer

Brockholes Nature Reserve is a new kind of nature reserve. With an iconic floating village and 250 acres of beautiful wildlife this transformed quarry site allows youngsters to get in touch with nature from an early age.

Brockholes is the Lancashire Wildlife Trusts flagship centre and it is full of nature moments just waiting for you to discover. There are a series of routes for you to take around the reserve, with hides and viewing points carefully located so that you do not disturb the wildlife. The floating visitor village hosts the lakeside restaurant, shops and a conference centre.

The Manchester Crochet Club meets fortnightly to learn crochet, meet other Manchester mums, and have a good chat. Whether you're a complete beginner or a seasoned pro, everyone is welcome to come along!
The nature reserve also has a large play area to use free of charge and it includes: a miniature gravel quarry for scooping, digging and transporting fun, a play hut, swings, balance blocks, a chain path, Jackstraws see-saw and a Zip Wire. There are plenty of picnic benches around the play area too, so you can watch the children playing from a safe distance.

One of the best times to visit Brockholes is during the school holidays when they hold a wide range of events for all ages. From Forest School Family Fun to Xplorer Challenges there is something for everyone. The official launch of the pond dipping season will be welcomed in on the weekend of the 26th May. Not just for kids, the pond dipping sessions are an opportunity for all visitors to examine what there is in the ponds.
