Play. Party. Eat.

Hidden away on the second floor of Mothercare in Manchester Fort, Cheetham Hill, we recently discovered a little haven for shoppers with children who need to take a break.

Eddie Catz Play Centre, Mothercare

First, there’s a small but exciting soft play area, newly under the wing of the Eddie Catz brand. It's one of the cheapest indoor centres we've come across at just £3 a session (prices vary by age), and there's no time limit to play. Your little one is free to come and go throughout your Mothercare visit.

Under 2's Area

There's a small 'under 2s' section with a mini ball pool that has its own gate, whilst the bigger soft play arena boasts a large ball pit, slides, a suspended tunnel and numerous places to climb and scramble.

Parents and carers are welcome to go in, so long as you've all got socks on. There are occasional places where, due to the layout, it's not as easy to see your child as they play, so if you're still a bit cautious you might well want to join in! Otherwise, there's the nearby Café Nest with very reasonable prices and a selection of seating for adults and children, including a thoughtful nursing area with padded seats and comfy cushions.

Cafe Nest Seating Area

As well as regular soft play, this centre is currently hosting baby and toddler music classes on a Wednesday morning courtesy of Boom, Bash, Wiggle , and other classes and events are on the way soon. There's a Halloween party being advertised at the moment which looks like great fun. They also hold birthday parties and occasionally Eddie the Cat himself will make an appearance!

Elsewhere, there are loads of toys dotted about throughout the upstairs Mothercare shop courtesy of the Early Learning Centre. We usually have a go on the keyboard and drum kit on our way to soft play, and have a mooch through the space tunnel on the way out, stopping off to play with the train set and pirate ship. There's also jigsaws, magnets, books and teddies available to play with.

We've definitely become regular visitors at Eddie Catz!

We started out using this area to tag team as a family while we did our shopping, but now I often take my daughter there for a day out in its own right. There's plenty to keep her occupied for an hour or two, and there's always the promise of a nice cake from the café for me!
