Karen's Day Boat Hire

Beautiful boats on the historic Bridgewater Canal

Karen's Day Boat Hire in Boothstown offers a fabulous opportunity to explore the Bridgewater Canal. Become captain for the day and enjoy the beautiful countryside and wildlife. These boats are perfect for family fun days and celebrations. This is definitely a day out with a difference.

We took Bluebell out for an evening cruise and enjoyed three hours of gentle sailing towards Sale. The boat has a maximum capacity of ten people and there were eight adults and two small children in our party (aged 1 and 2). They were fitted with life jackets and they had an amazing time spotting swans and seeing dogs running on the canal bank. We meandered along the canal through Worsley, Monton, across the famous Barton Swing Aqueduct and through Trafford Park. We didn't have time on our three hour cruise to get much further, but if you were to continue and turn right you would end up at the King's Ransom in Sale town centre.

There are two other routes available to venture on. These are the cruise to Castlefield and the one to Leigh and beyond. To get to Castlefield you would turn a sharp left after Trafford park and you will end up in the vibrant waterways hub which is Castlefield Basin. To get to Leigh you need to cruise through the village of Astley Green, home to the only surviving pithead in Lancashire. This is a fascinating steam museum. You can stop off at the Old Boathouse, or the Waterside in Leigh for some light refreshments. There are many scenic spots to stop along the route, including the stunning Pennington Flash Country Park.

The boats have simple controls and you receive tuition and guidance before you set off. They are all fitted with flush toilet, gas cooker, cold running water and equipped with kettle, pans and full set of crockery and cutlery, so they are perfectly equipped for guests to bring their own food. We stayed on board and brought a lot of food and really enjoyed dinner al fresco. We had such a lovely time and thoroughly recommend a trip or day out on here. It cost £100 (plus £10 for petrol) for three hours hire and so it was a really reasonable cost per person.
