Get ready for a trio of solo shows from three talented ceramicists who are shaking things up in Salford. Aliyah Hussain, Paloma Proudfoot, and Renee So are bringing their unique flair to clay, revealing just how exciting ceramics can be when you let imagination run wild. These exhibitions highlight the ambitious creations coming from the North of England while welcoming some exceptional new talent. Through their work, these artists spin contemporary tales using ceramics, showcasing everything from playful objects to immersive experiences that make you think and chuckle. Plus, they definitely shake up the usual gender norms, making you wonder if the teapot really is just a teapot.

Aliyah Hussain's installation, "She was waiting for her roots," dives into the eerie realms of feminist sci-fi and plant horror—you know, the stuff garden gnomes dread. With creeping ceramic vines and an ambient soundtrack made by plopping microphones on clay sculptures, it'll be almost like the plants are having their own little rave. Then there's Paloma Proudfoot, who's channeling the ghosts of 19th-century Parisian medicine into her ceramic reliefs. Expect some thought-provoking performances to boot, tackling the curious historical connection between women's treatment and artistic expression. Finally, Renee So serves up oversized perfume bottles that trace their lineage back to snuff bottles from the Qing dynasty. And just when you think it can't get any cooler, she'll throw in a mosaic of women playing cuju, an ancient Chinese game that predates football. So, if you fancy a good chinwag about art, gender, and the bizarre yet beautiful world of ceramics, this is the place to be.
