Decorate a leather purse with ink made from Stockport oak trees AND learn the basics of leatherwork in this small, friendly class with artist Wendy Roby.

In the studio, you'll use plant-based ink to decorate and stitch a pre-cut piece of vegetable tanned leather (the most environmentally method of tanning). You'll learn the basics of leather work as well as finding out about botanical inks, which Wendy makes herself from Stockport oak trees, copper, avocado, blackberry and indigo.

You'll settle into the evening by doing some relaxed mark-making using found tools, brushes and sponges. There'll be an opportunity to find out how the inks are made as you sketch on paper and discover for yourself how very simple marks can be used to make a striking design.

Then you'll apply ink to the purse, before adding a stud and then glueing and stitching the seams using a traditional saddle stitch.
