Manchester Academy of Gynmastics has recently been opened by a couple from Salford with the sole aim of providing a world-class state of the art sports and recreation facility. It is a not for profit organisation which seeks to enable young people, irrelevant of social disadvantages or disabilities, to achieve as much as possible, giving them a platform to help them achieve in their chosen discipline and helping them get the best start in life.
We visited the centre and attended the 'Play gym' session which is on every weekday from 10am until 12pm. This is aimed at children under four years of age. The sessions cost £4 and you don't need to book in advance. These sessions are not structured in any way and the emphasis is on ‘Play’ using a range of gymnastic equipment, in a safe and friendly environment, under the supervision of a qualified coach. We spent lots of time on the trampolines and my little girl loved jumping in to the foam pit.
They have a wide range of gymnastics classes suitable for all ages. They do structured pre-school sessions which we will definitely be trying. This is on a Tuesday at 1pm and is called 'Tiny tots'. It supports the FUNdament Movement which has been developed by British Gymnastics in conjunction with early years specialists to help younger children and toddlers acquire essential physical, social, and emotional life skills.
In addition to the fantastic gymnastic programme they cater for a wide range of sports. They have excellent facilities for wrestling, boxing, dance, martial arts and yoga. They also have a fitness suite and recovery room complete with sauna, Jacuzzi and ice bath!
