In this day and age, planning a budget friendly day out with the family is no easy task, so when we found out about the awesome Spy Mission Treasure Trail, we just had to spread the word!


Follow clues, solve riddles and crack codes, all whilst exploring Manchester Castlefield on this self guided treasure trail.

The trail itself is roughly 1.3 miles long and is suitable for all ages, so every member of the family gets to play secret agent for the day. Starting at Manchester's Museum of Science, the trail will lead you through the Roman gardens to the canal area, looping round the canal side footpaths and returning to the starting point.

Manchester Castlefiled

Not only is the Spy Mission Treasure Trail a great way to get kids out of the house, but it's also a fun and exciting way to learn more about the great city of Manchester and it's history, buildings and monuments. And the best thing? As this is a self guided tour, you can take as long as you need to finish, so no need to rush little legs.

To get your mission underway, all you need to do is head on to www.treasuretrails.co.uk and order your very own trail booklet, you can either download this from the website and print at home, or order a hard copy which will be posted to you, however postage charges will apply.

Treasure Trail Booklet

One trail booklet will be sufficient for a family of 4-5 people and at just £6.99, you'll be hard pressed to find a cheaper family activity.

Our Spy Mission Essentials:
  • Comfy shoes are a must!
  • Snacks and possibly a picnic - this is optional, however mini spies tend to need more fuel than others!
  • Umbrella- this is Manchester after all.
  • Sunglasses and suncream - you never know!
  • Coat or a jacket
  • Pram (the trail is pushchair friendly) in case the littlest of legs get tired.
  • Water
