Stamford Park

by Lydia (follow)
Fountains, land trains and lots of space to play

Stamford Park in Stalybridge offers a unique way to pass the day with its decorative water feature.Children are free to run and play in the water fountains and this provides lots of fun for all ages.

The park itself features two main play areas. One of which is immersed in sand and includes; pirate ships, cradle swings and slides. The other is more suitable for older children and includes; zip wires and a very tall pyramid slide. There are basket swings in the park as well which are suitable for some children with physical disabilities.

Within the park there is an area called the Dingle, which is a steep sided valley that is heavily wooded. It features ornate Victorian rockwork and water features and is very different in character to the rest of the park. It has recently been restored and there is now an accessible path throughout the Dingle.

There is a land train in Stamford Park which offers short trips around the park for adults and children and is a fantastic way to see the sights. The train can be boarded near the children's play area and operates each day in school holidays and at weekends, weather permitting. We went during a weekday and weren't expecting the train to be there, but, were pleasantly surprised to see it in all its glory. My little girl is obsessed with trains and so loved it. it costs £1.50 per person to ride on it.

Other exciting features of the park include: an aviary and a multi use games area. The aviary is open from 10.00 am until 3.00 pm every day and features a range of birds, poultry and small mammals. There is also a cafe on site with toilets for all to use. The cafe is open from 10.00 am until 3.00 pm every day.
