The Garden House Farm

by Lydia (follow)
A community based project in the heart of Marple

The Garden House Farm is a non-profit community project that is based in Marple, Stockport. The area is free to visit but they rely on donations to keep it open to the public.

They have a number of animals on the farm, including; pigs, goats, sheep, Shetland ponies, chickens, rabbits and guinea pigs. Children also have an opportunity to walk Alpacas for a small fee. Tickets can be booked from the on-site café on the day to do this.

There are a number of climbing frames and toys at the Garden House for everyone to enjoy. They even have a mini assault course within the grounds. There are swings, sandpits, slides, ride on toys and lots more. It’s all kept clean and in good condition and perfect for toddlers, pre-schoolers and younger children.

As more donations from within the community come in, the more they plan to expand the project. They have recently started hosting birthday parties and there are significant plans to develop an education centre.

The Garden House Farm is open to the public seven days a week from 10 - 4. It is a great space to spend a few hours exploring the grounds. We particularly enjoyed walking along the countryside trails and looking at the orchard.

"Fantastic little place. Our kids loved the fact the hens were running around free, we got to stroke the goats after they were brought out for a walk. The play area is big enough for all the children to have a play without queuing for swings etc. We really enjoyed the riverside walk which gave us a lovely tour of the place and we felt there was enough seating (benches and hay bales) to have lunch which could either be a picnic or something from their café. Definitely worth a visit and would be lovely to see it change with the seasons."

"Yet another lovely visit yesterday. My daughter has just started volunteering so we get to spend more time at this great space. Staff and volunteers always friendly, helpful, warm and enthusiastic. Would recommend this place to any age group"
