A feast for all train fanatics
[Link http://www.thestationirlam.co.uk/index The Station] is a living museum with a café bar situated on Irlam train station. It provides a fabulous setting for food and drinks for the whole family, particularly those with a keen interest in trains. The Station services both the train station and the surrounding community and is a really welcoming establishment, with fantastic food.
As soon as you step in to The Station you are greeted with local artefacts and railway themed décor and this runs throughout the building. You will be taken back to the 1920's as you sit inside themed carriages. These are great areas for the family and my little girl loved having food in it.
They pride themselves on providing freshly prepared sandwiches, soups, salads, wraps, sharing platters and a variety of small plates and delicious pastries and cakes. They have options for afternoon tea available too and this can be themed depending on the time of year, with festive afternoon teas at Christmas time. They also have a great offering of coffees, teas hot beverages, smoothies and refreshments. You can eat these in or take them away.
They do not have a specific children's menu here but the food is incredibly reasonably priced and the staff are very accommodating. My little girl had sausages, baked beans and toast for £3.60! They have colouring pads and pens and toys available for children to play with too and high chairs for smaller children. The small play area has a train for littles ones to climb onboard and play train drivers. Whilst playing here you can spot trains as they make their way in to the station.
The Station is a unique venue for any occasion so if its a function or meeting, family party, wedding or christening. The upstairs spaces are incredibly spacious and they have catering and private hire options to suit any budget.
If you are after a full day out you can extend your visit here by leaving the car and catching a train in to Manchester town centre. We spoke to a family when we visited who were having a big breakfast before heading in to Blackpool to see the illuminations. Irlam train station is a great hub for travel and The Station is a must visit attraction before any rail journey.
