Four of the best beaches within an hours drive of Manchester

When the hot weather hits it is good to know where the best beaches are. As such, we have compiled a list of our favourites for you to explore:

Formby Beach is a National Trust site and is a real dream to explore. It truly is a glorious beach with dramatic sand dunes, surrounded by sweeping coastal pinewoods. There are a series of walks along the coastline and each takes you to new parts, with a wide variety of views. We love the Formby Squirrel Walk.

Where: Formby Beach, Victoria Road, near Formby, Liverpool, L37 1LJ

There is so much to do here that you will need to keep coming back to explore all there is to offer. A firm favourite of ours is the mini train and outdoor trampolines. There playground here is great too! The main pier has fairground rides, fish and chips and donkey rides so you can truly experience the British seaside in all its glory. The kite festival in September, although incredibly busy, is well worth a visit.

Where: St Annes Beach, Beach Road, Lytham, FY8 5NS

New Brighton is a seaside resort located in the north east corner of Wirral. It has recently undergone a £60 million redevelopment scheme and is a fantastic day out for all the family. They have a wide range of attractions and facilities and the New Palace Amusement Arcade and Fairground is particularly popular. The Caffe Cream Ice Cream Parlour has a wide range of delicious ice creams and there is new adventure golf at Marine Point, which is lots of fun.

Where: New Brighton Beach, Kings Parade, New Brighton, Merseyside, CH45 3QW

Blackpool is more than just a beach, it is an institution, a home away from home. It offers a vast array of casinos and arcades, the Pleasure Beach and the Sandcastle Water Park. Blackpool Tower itself has an amazing circus and Jungle Jim and the ballroom hosts a wide range of events throughout the year. Blackpool Zoo is also a great day out for your animal loving children. Make sure you check out the annual illuminations as well!
