With half term and Halloween just around the corner we have collated our top picks for some serious spooky fun. From pumpkin picking to spooky trailer rides there is something here for everyone.

1. Pumpkin Festival at Kenyon Hall Farm

This years festival is a must do activity this Halloween. They have a wide range of pick your own pumpkins of varying sizes, so perfect for children whatever the age. They also have a range of ready picked pumpkins for you to choose from.

Once you have picked your perfect pumpkin you can take it to the themed carving area for ideas and inspiration on how to create the scariest pumpkin. This has an additional charge of £3 per pumpkin and it includes a free carving kit. They also have a range of seasonal hot & cold food and drink, including hog roast and chocolate apples and selection of pumpkin-themed merchandise.

2. A Haunted Halloween at Tatton Park

Be prepared for some seriously secret hauntings at the old hall during the October half term. It has a reputation for being one of the most haunted buildings in the country, so step in to the ghostly hall, if you dare! Here you can discover paranormal activity and secret legends on a frightening indoor trail.

There will be a mystery maze at the farm, which will run daily from 12pm to 5pm. As you journey through the maze there will be lots of surprises as you go. There is also some serious conker fun and some spooks in the secret garden and a scary garden trail.

When: 21st October to 29th October

3. Halloween Pumpkin Festival at Cockfields Farm

Its all pumpkins, pumpkins, pumpkins this Halloween down on the Farm and it promises to be extra spook-tacular this year. Start the day off by picking a pumpkin from the pumpkin patch and then carve it in the most creative way you can. The best bit is you get to leave the mess at the farm. As well as pumpkin decorating there will be lots of Halloween craft activities and interaction with the animals at the farm.

Every day live Halloween shows will be held and they are not to be missed. Fancy dress is encouraged when you visit and the best dressed will receive a prize! There are also Halloween goody bags on sale and these can be booked before you arrive or are available on the day.

4. Spooky World at Apple Jacks Farm

This event is a light-hearted spooky experience that is suitable for younger children aged from 4 to 11. With Halloween characters and a wide range of themed activities there is so much to do for all the family. They have inflatable drop slides, archery, corn cannons, a hay bale hill, spooky trailer rides, zip rides and mini diggers for children to play on. All activities are included in the entrance fee, apart from the coin operated mini diggers and quad karts.

Children are encouraged to dress up in costume and they can wander round the haunted house and the carnevil but there will be no horror actors during the day visitors. For older children (14 years and above) there is the Scary-at-night event, which is truly for brave souls!

5. Halloween Grotto at Ordsall Hall

Come and meet the resident Ordsall Hall witch in her grotto on the 24th and 25th October. Here you can have a go at some spells and beat her riddles - if you dare! All brave souls will receive a special Halloween gift. You will need to book online a special 15 minute slot between 12pm and 3pm.

Other activities running over October half term include the Halloween gnome trail and the Magic Potions and Secret Spells sessions. Both of these are drop in activities and no booking is required. Children are required to find the spooky, scary and ghoulish gnomes that have taken over Ordsall Hall. They can also have a go at making a magical potion in the kitchen and decorate their bottle to take home.
