The best days out for children in Liverpool

There is so much to see in Liverpool and it makes for a fantastic family friendly day out. It is only a short drive from Manchester city centre and it offers lots of opportunities for exploration and adventure. From interactive storytelling to meeting Fireman Sam to experiencing a show in the incredible Planetarium at the World Museum, there really is something for everyone!

1. Mattel Play!



Inspire your child's imagination with over 13,000 square feet of interactive adventure play. Mattel Play! in Liverpool is the perfect day out for Thomas obsessed children. It is based at the iconic Albert Dock and it features three fully themed interactive play zones. These are designed to develop your child’s creativity by bringing the worlds of Thomas & Friends™, Fireman Sam™ and Bob the Builder™ to life.

2. Imagine That!



Imagine That! in Liverpool is a fantastic day out. It is the very best in imaginative and creative play and there are many different areas to explore with a range of activities on offer. These include; the imagination village, construction site, art area, water area and science zone. Children can get hands on painting a real car, make huge bubbles or play dress up whilst dancing on stage. There are lots of talks and activities on throughout the day too to engage and excite children about a wide range of topics including science!

3. The Storybarn



The Storybarn is based in Calderstones park in Liverpool and is a magical experience for both parents and children. It is an interactive story-centre for children to explore, share and discover their love of books. It promises a thrilling world of imagination where children can embark on a literary adventure and it doesn't disappoint. The Storybarn is set over two floors and upstairs features live-reading from their story-sharers and a giant slide! The slide takes you downstairs to a craft area where you can create and craft to your hearts desire.

4. World Museum

Whether you're joining the World Museum on a 5,000 year journey through time to Ancient Egypt, or exploring human cultures from around the world, the collections here are unmissable. You can travel through space and time and discover the wonders of the universe in their immersive, fulldome planetarium. Using the latest in video technology, explore mysterious planets, experience the birth of the sun, and hunt for alien life in a cinema experience to remember. You can also come face to face with life-size casts of the skeletons of ferocious dinosaurs!

5. Formby Beach



Formby Beach is a National Trust site and a dream to explore. If you want a secluded, quiet beach then this is the place for you. Formby has an amazing and ever changing landscape and it offers a fantastic day trip for all. Here you will find rare wildlife, prehistoric footprints and miles of coastal walks which are just waiting to be discovered. One of our favourite walks here is the Formby Red Squirrel Walk as it enables you to explore the beautiful woodlands here, which are home to the native red squirrel. The walk is 2.9km in total and is a very easy trail and so is perfect for little legs.
