An interactive reading adventure
[Link http://thestorybarn.org.uk/treasureisland/ Treasure Island] has recently opened in the heart of Liverpool's shopping district. When you enter the building you are whisked away to a magical land of pirating adventure. You are greeted by storytelling pirates who will inspire and engage your children by telling tales of all kinds of pirates and their shipmates.
As children search for story clues, they will embark on a swashbuckling journey. There is so much here for the children to explore. They can dive in to a coral reef and make their way through secret tunnels. They can dig for buried treasure in the sand pit and make towering sandcastles or discover a tropical desert island where they will come face to face with a crocodile! The huge pirate ship is also there for all to discover.
There are books all around the centre and lots of comfy seats for you to read with your children. We loved reading 'Shark in the dark'. The expert storytellers lead readings at various points too. We were so impressed with the attentiveness of the staff and their creativity. They really engaged my daughter with stories of George the crab and encouraged her to make her own pirate name up; 'Pink hot dog'. My little girl was in awe of them.
The storytelling sessions last for around 45 minutes and cost £4.50. Under 1's are free and booking is required for these to avoid disappointment, The treasure trail adventures are free and they last 30 minutes. You need to sign up for these at the centre. They also have a free crafting area upstairs that you can go to at any time.
We combined our trip here with a walk around the docks. For a full day out you can take advantage of a number of city centre highlights which include; Mattel Play (for all Thomas the Tank Engine enthusiasts), the Tate, the Museum of Liverpool or Imagine That!.
