[Link http://www.liverpoolmuseums.org.uk/wml/ World Museum] is based in Liverpool and it provides a fantastic family day out, serving as a great wet weather experience. Whether you're joining the World Museum on a 5,000 year journey through time to Ancient Egypt, or exploring human cultures from around the world, the collections here are unmissable.

You can travel through space and time and discover the wonders of the universe in their immersive, fulldome planetarium. Using the latest in video technology, explore mysterious planets, experience the birth of the sun, and hunt for alien life in a cinema experience to remember. There are a range of shows held throughout the day and these are ticketed events that occur a small charge. Make sure that you get there early to avoid disappointment, especially at the weekends. There is one show aimed at toddlers and this is an immersive and interactive experience.

You can also come face to face with life-size casts of the skeletons of ferocious dinosaurs! This is the place to be for dinosaur fans as you will get to see the Allosaurus about to attack the defenceless plant-eater Camptosaurus. You can also explore sandstone slabs that line the walls with the footprints of extinct reptiles and enter a time tunnel to see how life has changed through geological time. When you reach the end you will find bones of mammoths and cave bears of the Pleistocene Ice Age.

One of my favourite bits on our visit here was the Ancient Egypt Gallery. Here you are invited on a 5,000 year journey to discover what life was really like at this time. You can explore the Mummy Room to find out how people achieved eternal life and read spells from the Book of the Dead and smell ingredients used in mummification. The Egyptian collection is one of the largest in the UK, so there is no better place to learn about ancient Egypt. My little girl also loved the huge map of Egypt on the floor and she made lots of friends running up and down the Nile.

There are lots of hands on experiences within the museum and so much to see and explore. They are incredibly family friendly and have a series of trails throughout the museum including; the dinosaur trail and the world cultures trail. They also hold Wonderful World workshops that are drop in sessions for the whole family on selected dates. Children are encouraged to explore the wonderful world we live in - from the oceans to the stars, and everything in between!
